Port Sudan

Port Sudan is Sudan’s primary commercial seaport. It is located on the Red Sea, around 295 miles northeast of the Nile River valley near Abarth. As a modern container port, they handle most imports and exports.

  • Twenty-First Century Maritime Silk Road member
  • Main imports: vehicles, machinery, building materials, and fuel oil
  • Main exports: gum arabic, cotton, hides, skins, senna, and cotton
  • Well-protected from the ocean and swell (approach and leave relatively simple)
  • Port division: North Port, South Port, and new Green Port
  • Over 8.6 million tonnes of cargo are handled annually
